Conservation and recreation officials in Cambria County want to build trails through Johnstown. However, they need the public’s input.

The Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority got a $200,000 grant for the Johnstown Urban Connectivity Project. They are developing a plan to connect all the existing trails, like the Path of the Flood, Jim Mayer Riverswalk and the Ghost Town Trail.

Eventually, the goal is to link those trails to the Pennsylvania Main Line Canal Greenway and the new, September 11th National Memorial Trail that will run from New York City down to the Flight 93 National Memorial in Somerset County.

The authority held a public meeting Tuesday night at Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center to get ideas about where to build the new connecting trails.

“They know the shortcuts. They know all the ways to get from Point A to Point B. That’s how we get the public involved to say, “This is the best way to go. There’s too much traffic on this road,'” said Clifford Kitner, the executive director of the authority.
