First responders across Central Pennsylvania carry Narcan, the drug that can reverse heroin overdoses.

But a new strain of Fentanyl that is being mixed with heroin, might be resistant to Narcan. Acryl Fentanyl is showing up in the Pittsburgh area, and DEA agent say it’s being manufactured overseas and is smuggled into the United States.

“These are dangerous drugs,” DEA Special Agent David Battiste said. “They’re cut by these dealers who don’t care about anything other than making a profit. It can be cut with anything,”

The DEA says it’s not clear why the drug is resistant to Narcan.
