Police are investigating a shooting on the 500 block of 3rd Ave in Altoona.
We’re told on Friday night it was reported that several residents heard multiple gunshots, then observed a black male running from the area on 5th Street.
Officers said they were then advised of a male gunshot victim who was brought in to the UPMC Altoona emergency room. Officials told us additional officers responded to the ER and made contact with the male victim who suffered a gunshot wound to his left forearm area just below the elbow. We’re told the victim stated that he was in a physical altercation with a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt when he heard several “pops” and realized that he was shot. No further description was provided of the suspect shooter by the victim.
Police said evidence was collected from the scene, including 3 spent 9mm casings and bullet fragments. Officers explained witnesses later provided that they observed a black male with long dreadlocks in a black hoodie chasing after the male victim.
At this time the investigation is very active and ongoing. Anyone with information should contact Detective Merritts at the Altoona Police Department.
