Senator Bob Casey is hoping to help workers that have to take leave from work by co-sponsoring the “Family and Medical Insurance Leave Act.”
The act would provide workers with up to 12 weeks of paid leave financed through worker contribution to a trust fund, similar to Social Security.
Workers could earn 66 percent of their monthly wages, up to a capped amount, for leave related to medical needs, pregnancy, childbirth recovery and military caregiving.
If passed, the act would cover workers in all companies and positions including those who are self-employed.
