(WTAJ) — Nestle is laying off about 4,000 workers in the United States.

According to bloomburg.com, the change comes as the company transitions away from delivering ice cream and frozen pizza to stores directly, and is instead moving to a warehouse model to cut costs.

The change was announced today as the company is shutting down the direct-to-store delivery for items like DiGiorno and Skinny Cow in the third quarter and will eliminate an operation that includes 1,400 trucks, 230 facilities, and 2,000 different routes.

According to bloomburg.com, as part of the change, Nestle USA will close eight company-owned frozen distribution centers. The change is expected to be complete by the second quarter of 2020.
