A woman is dead and a man is in custody for her murder after a fight escalates in Bedford County.

Police said Lekevia Bush, 41, was stabbed to death at a residence on West Main Street in Everett Borough early Tuesday morning.

Kenny Williams lives just down the street from where the crime happened.

“I’m surprised, shocked and especially saddened and disappointed,” Williams said.

Officers told us Bernard Jones Jr. allegedly took a knife from the kitchen, forced his way into his fiancé’s room and stabbed Bush a number of times. Bush’s daughter was hiding in the bathroom and made a call to 911.

Alicia Miller grew up in the house next door.

“I was just like who would do that,” Miller told us. “In a small little town, who would do it?”

Officials explained Jones grabbed the victim’s keys and took off on the PA Turnpike. His car was eventually spotted in Chester County, that’s near Philadelphia.

The affidavit said Jones confessed to the crime and said the two got into a heated argument and “he just lost it.” It also said he had plans of just driving until he ran out of gas because he knew he was going to get caught.

Meanwhile, neighbors are still processing what happened.

“If she has family I feel for her because she was taken in a tragic manner,” Williams said.

Jones is facing multiple charges including criminal homicide, murder of the 1st degree and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Jones does not have the option of bail.
