The Nehemiah Project, a faith-based organization that is revitalizing the Lower Fairview neighborhood, is holding a grand opening for the former Wright Elementary School.
The former school will be transformed into a community service hub center for various services, including a life skills center, day care and after-school programs, a wellness center, and a recreational space for the community.
The grand opening will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the school to reveal the school’s new name and will be followed by a ribbon-cutting.
“It will be a big day,” said Peter Joudry, CEO of The Nehemiah Project.
The event will offer tours of the building, a barbecue, and fun activities for kids, including two bounce houses, basketball, live entertainment, and a petting zoo.
The Nehemiah Project purchased the building earlier this year, and is partnering with First Frontier Kitchen, Refuge Youth Ministry, Great Commission School, Fuel Church, and Altoona Area School District’s GED program.
“We welcome those who want to be part of this neighborhood game-changing project,” Joudry said.
