Photos of needles found along a City of DuBois walkway are getting attention on social media.

Dylan Carlson said when he three found needles along the city walking path, he wanted to spread the word to keep pets and people safe.

“I know a lot of people who walk their dogs here,” Carlson said. “I really didn’t want anyone’s dog especially to accidentally step on one of them.”

Comments on his post by others say they have seen needles in the area too.

City manager Herm Suplizio said the city is aware this could be a drug-related problem, and is trying to solve it.

“It’s the day and age we live in right now, we don’t like it, I don’t think anybody likes it, but we know it’s here, we recognize the problem, and obviously it’s something our police department is working at every single day,” Suplizio said.

He also wants people to know the city works to keep the parks and walkways as safe as possible.

“Hopefully in the near future we’ll have more cameras and things like that, but the police are always monitoring it and so is our public works department,” he said.

Suplizio said if you find needles anywhere in the city, the best thing to do is leave them where you found them and call police.
