A missing 74-year-old hiker was found safe this morning after Elkland Search and Rescue were dispatched to the Munn Road area of the Quehanna Wilds.

Elkland Search and Rescue were dispatched by the Elk County Emergency Services at 12:25 a.m. Monday morning, requested by the PA State Police.

A command post was established with PA State Police, several fire stations, emergency services, and the Salvation Army. Crews searched on foot on hiking trails and probable routes in the area. ATV and UTV teams moved the crews and searched back country trails. The PA State Police Helicopter Division flew over the area with heat-seeking equipment.

The 74-year-old man was found at 4:10 a.m. a short distance off of one of the many hiking trails in the area by a hasty team that was searching on foot. He was unharmed, and guided to a service road area, where he was checked by the Clearfield EMS services.

The Elkland Search and Rescue said that the man was located 2.8 miles from his vehicle and was prepared to be outdoors. He had warm clothing, a backpack with supplies, and a headlamp all helped the search be successful.

The hiker was then taken back to the command post to be reunited with his family.
