It’s always an adventure in Mr. Winquist’s classroom at Great Commission Schools in Altoona. However, maybe one of the craziest adventures of all is letting a bunch of fourth graders shave his head.

“I was thinking is his hair going to be shaved off completely or just a little haircut,” fourth grader Wyatt Tanner said.

The students usually learn about math, but this was their end of the year gift. The only requirement was that everyone got an 85% or higher on their big test.

It was a pretty good motivator to get the kids to study, especially since they have been dying to get their hands on their teacher’s locks.

“He would put it up in buns and stuff and then everybody would pretend like they were cutting it off with scissors,” Briella Huber, another student, told us.

So here’s the equation: teacher gets haircut + student stylists = chic or a total mess?

As his hair falls to the ground, Mr. Winquist isn’t sure what to think. It just might take some time for everyone to get used to.

“I still haven’t touched it up,” Mr. Winquist smiled. “It’s been a few days now since they cut it. It’s a little long in places, but overall they did a pretty good job.”

As school lets out for the year, it’s a moment these kids will definitely remember.

“Whoever is going to have him when we’re in 6th grade is going to be laughing,” Rylie Ellis, a fourth grade student, said. “Hopefully it doesn’t grow back by then.”

The event showed sometimes the answer to the hardest equation is just a little fun.
