Did you know that Altoona is home to one of the best classic car collections in the North East? You might think it’s the rare cars that put this place on the map, but it’s the master mechanic under the hood that’s keeping these cars winning the big prizes.

At Lenny’s Classic Car Collection and Museum in downtown Altoona, you’ll find 30 cars that the crew takes to shows around the country…and they win. There are seven national championship cars in Lenny’s collection. In many cases only a few of these cars exist in the world. Like a 1951 Bentley Mark 6 drophead coupe.

It took chief restorer Wayne Farabaugh 40,000 hours to bring it back to life and make it into an award-winning car. That was spread out over four years. The car is now worth more than a million dollars.

Fellow shop employee, Dan Turnbaugh has known about Wayne’s talents since junior high. Dan says Wayne is very patient, very tolerant and very knowledgeable about cars.

Wayne has something like a photographic memory. He can pull apart an engine and put it back together, without instructions. His co-workers know Wayne is special. From sand blasting, to body work, engines, transmissions, and metal fabrication. He has extreme patience for it all.

It all comes from a passion he’s had since he was a teenager working on models and bikes. And he’s still got 10 vehicles waiting for him in this building. Like a super rare 1935 SS1. It’s the company that would rename itself Jaguar. Wayne may be able to build this into a $2 million car. Wayne says he always knew the roar of an engine would be his legacy.
