A Clearfield County arching band is getting a lucky chance–and heading to the Big Apple.

The Curwensville Junior/Senior Golden Tide Marching Band is set to play in the popular New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Band director Robert Pennington found out the band was playing in the parade in November. Now they are practicing every day until they leave Friday

“I’m most looking forward to showing how Curwensville can produce small things even though we’re a big school,” majorette captain Mikayla Pizzuto said.

The parade is one of the oldest in the country.

To prepare, there’s been weeks of rehearsals to learn a challenging routine.

“The kids have put in a ton of work, this is the hardest drill we’ve done since I’ve been the director here and they have definitely rised to the challenge,” Pennington said.

The band has traveled to Disney before, but this will be their first time in New York.

“I’m assuming New York is going to be equally as exciting, especially since it’s a city, marching through all the skyscrapers, I’m excited,” drum major Madison McKeown said.

All 71 band members will leave from the high school Friday, followed by two buses of family and fans.

The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday.
