Several verbal altercations escalated to an Alleghany County man allegedly pulling a knife and threatening to stab customers inside Walat’s Bar in Jenner Township.

An affidavit of probable cause claims that the controversy stirred from the bartender’s refusal of service just after midnight when Richard Dwayne Horwat was visibly intoxicated.

Horwat began arguing with customers and waving a knife around aggressively stating he would kill everyone there. The bartender then chased him outside with a baseball bat, locking the door behind him to protect those inside.

Troopers charged Horwat of Monroeville with terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct on Wednesday.

When the law officials arrived at the bar, Horwat was said to be standing right outside “wearing a head lamp” with a knife tucked in a sheath on his right hip.

Horwat is claiming that things were fine, and it was all a simple misunderstanding according to the affidavit.

After being arraigned by on-call District Judge Kenneth Johnson of Somerset, Horwat was sent to Somerset County Jail after failing to post the $25,000 bond.
