We now know the name of the man who police said was murdered by a family member in Pleasant Gap, Centre County.

Officers said Ardell Matthew Gross shot Richard Smalley several times, eventually striking him in the head and killing him.

It happened Friday afternoon around 4p.m. on Whitman Avenue in Spring Township.

Officials said Gross and Smalley had been arguing about the recent death and estate of another family member.

We’re told that’s when Gross told police that he went and got a gun from his bedroom and shot the victim multiple times.

Gross is now behind bars in the Centre County Prison. His preliminary hearing is set for November 8th.

He’s facing first and third degree murder, as well as aggravated assault.
