Cambria County detectives arrested a man accused of making false reports and alarms to emergency officials.
Police said Nathan Planell allegedly programed a handheld radio to the frequency used by Cambria County’s Department of Emergency Services and made several false reports of traffic stops and registration checks within the area. He also used the same radio to call out several emergency codes within Cambria County Prison, which resulted in a complete lockdown of all inmates.
Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan said a tip called into 911 led investigators to Planell. We’re told officials obtained a search warrant and the alleged radio was seized by detectives during the search.
Planell was taken into custody late Friday night. He’s charged with false alarms to agencies of public safety and two counts of false reports to law enforcement authorities.
He was taken to the Cambria County Prison where he is currently being held on a probation violation. He awaits arraignment on the new charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.
