WINSLOW TOWNSHIP, JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Police in Jefferson County are investigating what they say is an arson fire.

The fire broke out at a 2-story wood frame house along Route 322 just before 3 p.m. on Monday, May 13.

Samuel Jerrell, 30, of Sykesville, was at the scene when the fire department arrived and he lied to the fire department by giving them false information about how the fire started.

The State Police Fire Marshall determined the explanation was scientifically impossible.

When he was confronted about the misleading information, he confessed to setting the fire using gasoline and other materials in the basement of the house.

No one was injured in the fire, but the damage is estimated at $220,000.

He is now facing several charges, including arson, criminal mischief, and recklessly endangering another person.
