Nearly 30 years after the murder of Katherine Heckel, Attorney General Josh Shapiro has announced that the man charged for her death will spend the next 10 to 20 years behind bars.
Lloyd Groves, who was from Beaver, Clinton County, was previously charged with criminal homicide decades after Heckel disappeared.
Heckel disappeared after leaving her work at international paper company in Lock Haven back on July 15, 1991. After her disappearance, the initial investigation uncovered several pieces of evidence, a potential suspect, and signs of foul play.
In July of 2014 the case was presented to a grand jury and they decided to indict Groves for the murder of Heckel.
Josh Shapiro said in a statement today, “After 27 years of Katherine Heckel’s disappearance, I hope this brings closure and peace to the Heckel family.”
