A suspect is in custody accused of murdering a woman in Johnstown over the weekend. 

Larry Fason, 55, of Johnstown is facing murder charges after Angela Lunn, 32, was found dead Sunday. 

“This is as brutal as they come,” said Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan.

Johnstown police were called out to 91 Messenger Street near Bell Place after Lunn was found dead on November 5th around 12:30pm. A neighbor discovered her body while taking the garbage out. They say she was beaten with several cuts to her upper torso and face.

“I couldn’t believe it. It was pretty bad. You could see the side of her face was bloody. Her hair was wet,” said Delores Thompkins, whose sister lives in the apartment building near where the body was found.

Lunn was found without a shirt on and she was covered in a black coat. Coroner Jeff Lees said she died from a broken neck.

“I’ve been in the coroner’s office 17 years and this is one of the most brutal deaths I have seen,” said Jeff Lees, Cambria County Coroner.

During interviews police learned she was seen several times with Fason, who lived in a third floor apartment at the building on Messenger Street.

Area surveillance showed Fason throwing two bags into the dumpster. Police discovered inside were bloody clothes and hair they believe are Lunn. A short time later the video shows Fason dragging Lunn, putting her body in the garbage shelter. 

Callihan said Lunn only weighed 97 pounds and would not have been able to defend herself.

“It’s very hard to look at a young woman who’s petite in nature and stature sustain these kinds of  injuries when you know darn well she’s not fighting someone off that’s attacking her in this manner,” Callihan said.

Police say there is evidence that Lunn was sexually assaulted. They obtained a warrant to conduct sexual assault testing on Fason.

“We’re waiting for charges to possibly be upgraded when we get the results of the sexual assault exams from the crime lab,” Callihan said.

Fason is in the Cambria County Jail.  He faces criminal homicide and aggravated assault charges.

Police are asking for the public’s help to learn more about the relationship between Lunn and Fason.
