Sandy Township police file charges against the man involved in a standoff near DuBois earlier this month.

27-year-old Kevin Alexander Kear is charged for a more than 5-hour long standoff on Oklahoma-Salem Road.

According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to Kear’s home around 2:30 p.m. on March 8.

Police say Kear had reached out to his ex-girlfriend stating he was going to shoot himself.

According to court documents, Kear had gone to the woman’s house earlier that day and tried to gain entry by kicking in the door.

Police say Kear showed the woman a handgun, which he had obtained earlier that day by falsely answering a question on the background check.

According to the documents, Kear left and returned to his home on Oklahoma-Salem Road.

Police say Kear caused a state of emergency on Oklahoma-Salem Road causing homes and businesses to be evacuated.

Kear faces several misdemeanor charges including simple assault, terroristic threats, and disorderly conduct.

He is in the Clearfield County Jail. His preliminary hearing is set for Friday, March 22.
