An Altoona man is facing charges Tuesday after stealing from his own mother.

Altoona police were called to a home on 5th Ave after reports of a burglary in late July. Paula Morse told police she returned home earlier that day with her son Daniel Morse.

As they entered the home, her son reported that the door was unlocked. Morse said she usually dead bolts and locks the door before leaving for work every day. At the time, nothing to be disturbed in the home and there was no damage to the door.

After “getting a weird feeling” later in the day, Morse checked her bedroom closet to see if her boyfriend’s safe was still there, and it was not.

Daniel Morse eventually admitted to stealing the safe and saying the door was unlocked as a way to cover it up. Money, a wedding band set, and three silver coins were in the safe at the time. He sold the contents for drugs and money.
