You could say that Karen Kleinosky dabbles in volunteer work: serving meals at a local food pantry, baking scones for fundraisers and running a charity ladies-only golf event.
Kleinosky was selected as the YWCA Tribute to Women Yellow Rose Award recipient.
Kleinosky is also the branch manager at First National Bank in Richland Township. She’s changed jobs throughout her life, following different interests. However as a young woman, she says she was never really encouraged to take risks in her career. That’s why she wants to help young women not be afraid to go after what they want.
“Women can do anything they want to do and I’ve hired a good many women here at my branch that are studying to be physicians’ assistants and move on in their careers and they’ve all done so successfully. So, I’m happy to be one of those people behind them,” Kleinosky said.
She was chosen by the YWCA Greater Johnstown board as the Yellow Rose Award recipient for her volunteer work in the community and committment to empowering women.
“If a girl has a dream, she wants them to follow it,” said Diane Lopez, the YWCA board president.
Kleinosky says she’s honored to receive the award, but she knows there are many other women who deserve recognition, too.
“A lot of them are behind the scenes. They’re not out carrying a banner, waving something saying ‘Look at me, I’m doing this.’ They’re just all quietly going about, doing their jobs and empowering other women,” Kleinosky said.
Thursday night’s ceremony is the 32nd Annual Tribute. Over the years, about 225 women have been recognized. YWCA leaders say they’re looking forward to honoring many more deserving women for years to come.
