Local treasure for fishermen opens to public

The water filling Spruce Creek in Huntingdon County sparkled in the sun Wednesday afternoon.

Christian Stoltz heads in hoping to reel in some trout.

“I mean it’s not a big stream, but there are definitely big fish,” he told us.

Thanks to the sale of Indian Caverns, Stoltz is enjoying new fishing access. The area is known across the state for its quality trout. It has been private until recently opening to the public.

“I have heard stories about the Steelers coming up here,” Stoltz explained. “There’s also a section that’s called Carter’s Creek. It’s where Jimmy Carter used to come.”

Nate Pritts visited the spot for the first time.

“It’s beautiful, can’t beat it,” he said. “There is not a ton of good fishing around here so when you find a good spot it’s fun.”

The coveted area is now open for everyone to enjoy. Local anglers are hoping for a catch, no matter how big or small.

“We have just been trying to take advantage of it before it gets out there and it’s too crowded to fish,” Stoltz smiled.

This part of the creek is located across from what was once the Indian Caverns. The address is 5386 Indian Trail, Spruce Creek, PA.
