Local students wear red ribbons, say no to drugs

Kids across the country and central Pennsylvania are wearing red ribbons this week for a special cause.

It’s all for the National Red Ribbon Campaign, which teaches kids how to say no to drugs and live healthy lifestyles.

Schools across the region hold different games and assemblies for their students as a fun way to teach them important lessons.

“I always say any recreational use of a drug is dangerous and you don’t know, really, what’s going to happen. You could overdose, you could get addicted, you could get arrested. There’s all kinds of things that could happen, especially if you’re young and you’re still forming your habits and your lifestyle. We don’t want kids to experiment with drugs, any kind of drug,” said Mike Messina, the drug prevention specialist for the Community Action Partnership of Cambria County.

Red Ribbon week happens every year during the last week of October.
