A Mount Aloysius student has earned national writing awards.
Mount Aloysius College sophomore, Alyson Corey, was notified by Delta Epsilon Sigma (DES), the National Catholic Honor Society, that her short story earned second place in their national writing contest.
Corey, of Williamsport, studies Ultrasound Technology and enjoys writing in her free time.
“I’d say Mount Aloysius helped prepare me for this by inspiring me to share my writings with others,” said Corey and she went on to say, “Before, I rarely even told people I wrote at all, but I mentioned it to a friend and they convinced me to let them read my story and other things I have written. They encouraged me to keep writing and I got the confidence to show others my stories. It is because of the amazing people here at MAC that I entered the writing contest at all. I can’t thank them enough.”
The honor society represents 71 universities and colleges across the country. The Mount Aloysius College DES chapter is Delta Chi. Two students in the last three years have received Honorable Mentions for their writing. Corey is the first Mount Aloysius student to be honored with a Second Place.
Dr. Fran Rohlf, assistant professor of Religious Studies, serves as DES’ president, and encourages Mount Aloysius students to enter the contest. Each entry is judged blindly.
“I am very proud of Alyson and all our students who took the courage to submit their work for judgment in such a prestigious Contest,” said Dr. Rohlf.
