Local student dedicates senior project to kids with cancer

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — A local teenager says he’s been blessed, so he’s using his senior project to help kids who aren’t so fortunate. It’s all happening this weekend and it’s something you may want to be part of.

One of  Tyler Robinson’s favorite activities is playing basketball with the Altoona Mountain Lions.

“I’m really fortunate to have good health and the children with cancer that can’t do the things I can do everyday, I’d like to help,” Tyler said. And he added, “I thought what better way to do a graduation project than to use what I love to do as basketball,  to give back to a cause that’s very important to me.”

That cause is the Brian Morden Foundation, an organization that offers support to children with cancer and their families.

This coming Saturday, Tyler and his teammates will take on former Altoona High basketball players with all proceeds benefiting the Morder Foundation,

Among those suiting up for the game is Mountain Lion Coach and former NBA player, Doug West, who’s 6’6″

Of the match-up Tyler said, “They’re definitely bigger than us, but I think we’re going to be way faster than them considering most of them have graduated earlier than 1990.”

West is expecting a real contest, saying, “Because he has a very young squad, I’m sure he wants to get the pace up a little bit, so we gotta make sure we have guys that can run with them.”

They both say it’ll be a fun game for a great cause. The AAHS Alumni vs. Students game takes place on Saturday April 13 at 7 p.m.,  at the Altoona Area High School Field House.
