Local senator wants the state to develop plan to help PA dairy farmers

Pennsylvania is in the midst of a dairy crisis and one senator is calling for change.

Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for milk production but dairy farmers are facing low prices for milk, while battling increasing production costs and a market where supply outpaces demand.

Senator Jake Corman wants the state to develop an incentive plan for a dairy processing plant to come to our state.

“We’ve certainly created incentives in the past to get different types of businesses to locate in Pennsylvania. It’s time to step up for dairy. Everyone talks about the support of agriculture and dairy farming. This is a way to really do it,” said Senator Corman.

A report released in January said two new dairy processing plants in Pennsylvania could significantly reduce the overall supply chain costs, help the marginal value of milk for producers all while adding jobs and more than a billion dollars to the economy.
