Local school holds open house for folks with disabilities, families

A school in Johnstown wants to help people living with disabilities, or anyone looking for a career, learn the skills they need.

The Commonwealth Technical Institute @ the Hiram G. Andrews Center in Johnstown is holding its 15th Annual Career and Transition Fair from Wednesday, Oct. 17 – Friday, Oct. 19th.

It’s in honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. However, the school also accepts students who do not have a disability.

Families and prospective students toured the facility and learned what the school has to offer, both inside and out of the classroom.

“It’s about socialization. It’s about learning to be good stewards in your community, good stewards in the college and really getting back to their own communities and contributing to society,”
said Chris Zakraysek, the director of Institutional and Business Management.

If you missed the open house on Wednesday and Thursday, don’t worry: it runs from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. on Friday.
