The School Safety and Security Committee recently approved $12.4 million in school safety grants for 496 school districts.
Per Act 44 of 2018, interested school districts submitted applications to the Committee to be eligible for $25,000.
School districts can use the money for performing school safety assessments, purchasing security-related technology and equipment, supporting school safety-related and behavioral-health trainings, preparing all-hazards plans, hiring school resource officers, school police officers, school counselors, social workers and school psychologists, and providing for trauma-informed approaches to education.
Seventy-six percent of school districts applied to use the money for security planning and the purchase of security-related technology.
