We’ve told you that this year’s Rockefeller Christmas is from State College.
Well, man who gave it away is getting to keep a piece of it!
A part of the tree will be turned into a coffee table.
Windy Hill Furniture in Tyrone will make the table, using a six-inch slab of the tree for the top and another tree’s trunk for the bottom.
“This is the first time we have ever had a request like this but it’s amazing, we’re really excited. You know it’s part of history and we can help him save the piece of history, he’ll have it forever, you know it will be an heirloom piece,” said Windy Hill Furniture Manager Sarah Franks.
The wood still needs to be kiln dried.
That could take about six months.
The table should be finished by next summer.
The tree is now in New York City, and after Christmas it’s wood will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
