The Saint Vincent DePaul food bank of Altoona hosted a Thanksgiving meal today for area residents who would otherwise not have a Thanksgiving dinner.
All the food was homemade by the Altoona Women’s Club.
They’ve been serving the community for 23 years.
Organizers say every year hundreds of people come out for this annual meal.
“It makes us feel like for a day we are their family, we are providing them with a good meal, and goodie bag to take home,” said Mary Jane Hammers of the Altoona Women’s Club. “Everyone is very hospitable, and they talk to them like they’re family.”
They certainly had enough for everyone, they cooked up about 150 pounds of turkey for today’s meal!
