A new ordinance has been drafted for a $5 vehicle registration fee in Centre County.
Commissioners agreed today to publish the ordinance on the county website and in the media for public feedback. They want to know what residents think before they take a final vote on the ordinance May 9.
“Initially, I was in favor of doing you know longer stretch,” Commissioner Mike Pipe said. “After talking with municipalities, after talking with transportation planners in the county at the MPO, we could probably do longer, but I’m comfortable, I’ve gotten more and more comfortable with it.”
A Sunset Clause was added to the draft. Pipe originally pitched the idea of a $5 fee, and he says it will help fund local transportation projects in the county.
