While most try to avoid being outside in cold temperatures a company in State College encourages biking in all weather conditions.
West Arete is a software company that is certified “Bike Friendly.”
Most of its employees commute to work on a bicycle even with snow and freezing temperatures!
A routine Scott Woods, President of the company, said is good for the soul.
“Biking to work and having that commute of being able to get fresh air and get some exercise as you get ready for your day and as you wrap up your day, I think is one of the most healthy, enjoyable types of commutes that you could possibly have,” Woods said.
Rain, snow or shine, most employees at West Arete pedal to work, so they wear plenty of layers and the right gear to stay safe on the road.
And staff says so long as you’re prepared for the trek, any weather can be biking weather.
“The reaction that we get is incredulousness that we would actually enjoy doing it but one of my favorite quotes from one of our employees was ‘There’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing,” Woods said.
Woods said only bike in winter conditions if you feel safe and comfortable doing it.
