A local business stepped up to give back to the community.

Altoona-based Veeder-Root celebrated their first ever Fortive Day of Caring.

More than 250 employees got a paid day off to go out and help the area.

They did things like build a patio for the local teen shelter, hand out thank you cards and goodie bags at the Veterans Home, even put together supplies for hurricane victims.

“We have a lot to be thankful for and to be able to share our resources and our talents to the community with our neighbors really helps find purpose and meaning in our lives here at work,” Dawn Christman, human resources manager for Veeder-Root, said. “It’s also the right thing to do.”

The business plans to continue doing this again next year.
