An Altoona boy with Down Syndrome is being featured in a national video.
Five-year-old Jeffery Millard will be appearing in the bright lights of Broadway as part of the National Down Syndrome Society’s (NDSS) Annual Times Square video presentation.
His photo was entered by his parents to a worldwide collection from the NDSS, and was selected from more than 2400 entries to appear in the video.
His mother says she was shocked and overwhelmed at the news that his photo was selected, and is proud her son will be a part of something with such a big reach.
“It’s very important to spread awareness because as time has gone on, people with Down Syndrome have been excluded and they’re a very valuable part of society, and I just want people to know that they’re able to accomplish anything anybody else can, they’re just like anybody else,” said Melinda Millard, Jeffery’s mother. “These individuals are beautiful people.”
The video presentation will kick off the Down Syndrome Awareness month in October.
The 24th Annual Flagship Buddy Walk in New York City will also be held after the presentation.
