SUMMERVILLE, JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ)– A library in Jefferson County wants to help job seekers learn the skills needed to land a job.

Summerville Public Library is hosting a four week job skill series called Rags to Riches.

“It’s for people who want to better themselves, get a better paying job, move up on the ladder, it’s also for them too,” library board president Sara Drenning said.

Each week will focus on a different topic of skills needed during the job search– like how to dress for success, prepare a resume and successfully interview.

“We want to teach people how to write a proper resume, because sometimes the reason they’re not getting jobs is because they don’t have a proper resume,” library director Jennifer Coleman said. “Or they don’t know what a cover letter is and that you’re required to write a cover letter prior to sending in a resume.”

Workshops start Thursday May 15. The series wraps up with a job fair on June 6.

The entire program was made possible through a $1,000 Grow with Google Grant.

Job skills series schedule is as follows:

Thursday, May 16 – Dress for Success: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Thursday, May 23, – Resumes, Cover Letters, and Google Tools: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Thursday, May 30, – Mock Interviews: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Thursday, June 6, – Job Fair: Noon – 4:00 p.m.

You don’t have to attend all four workshops, but a $100 gas gift card is up for grabs each week.

The library has a limited number of computers and laptops available, it’s recommended to bring your own laptop.
