The State College Area School Board has set a date to vote on a proposal that would change the length of the school day.

That vote is scheduled for Monday, December 18.

Since April, the district has been working to extend the elementary school day by 44 minutes, and push back the start time for the middle and high schools by 30 minutes.

Doing so would give elementary school teachers more time for core classes and would allow older students to get sleep some doctors say is necessary.

The board also discussed costs for changes in transportation and staffing as a result of the proposed change.
