Koda, the allergen detection service dog, goes to work

Koda can sniff out any possible trace of peanuts to keep her owner, Addy, from having a deadly reaction.

Service Paws of Central PA presented a check to Allergen Detection Service Dogs to pay for Koda at an event on Monday.

The founder of the service dog organization, Ciara Gavin, said Koda’s sense of smell will make a huge difference for Addy and her family.

“They still are doing all their same, normal things that they’ve been doing to keep Addy safe. And now, they have a final checker, somebody that can through and almost have that x-ray vision to say, ‘You did a good job cleaning this table, but the underside of the chair, not so much. You missed something underneath there’,” she said.

Addy’s mom, Liz, and Koda did a demonstration of the dog’s peanut detection abilities. She found peanut butter hidden underneath a chair in seconds.
