An international electronics manufacturing services company in Johnstown is expanding into Somerset County.

Kitron acquired the new facility from API Technologies Inc. in Windber, and gained 115 employees on its staff. The company says the 100,000 square foot facility will provide room for further growth and helps to strengthen their position in the U.S. defense market sector.

“In the short term, the focus will be on incorporating the Windber site into the Kitron group, processes and culture. In the longer term, operations will be coordinated. We may continue with two locations each specializing in different areas, or the two sites may be co-located to the larger facility. Over time, we aim to create new opportunities for employees by continuing to grow our business and investing in automation and new capabilities,” said Jason Galiote, Managing Director of Kitron.

Kitron first opened its Johnstown location in 2010 and has since grown to capacity.
