Juniata Valley hosting craft fair for CHAMP

Students involved in CHAMP at Juniata Valley High School are hosting a holiday craft fair on Sunday, November 18.

The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the elementary school. There are 30 vendors signed up and proceeds from the vendor fees went to CHAMP. Admission is free.

“CHAMP” stands for “Creating Hope and Making Progress” and it’s in its fifth year. The organization is student run and raises money to help families in need in Huntingdon County. All schools in Huntingdon County participate in raising money for the cause. (Huntingdon, Southern Huntingdon, Juniata Valley, Mt. Union and New Day Charter School.)

So far, CHAMP has helped 40 families in Huntingdon County and has raised roughly $140,000.

Each year, there is a CHAMP night (reminiscent of Penn State’s THON) where students participate in a dance marathon overnight full of activities. The night also serves as a night of fundraising.

This year’s CHAMP night is being held at Juniata Valley High School on March 1 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and the total amount raised for the year is announced in the morning. The students pay $20 to participate and receive a tee shirt. The families receiving the funds are introduced and announced throughout the night.

Wednesday morning on WTAJ, students from Juniata Valley’s CHAMP joined our Jordan Tracy to promote their craft fair and do some arts and crafts. The rest of the segments can be found in the links below:
