The storm today in Centre County closed off Route 220 and residents were unable to drive from Julian to Port Matilda. Several homes and businesses were hit hard by flash flooding in Julian.

Some homeowners were surprised by the flash floods.

“This is the first we’ve experienced it since we live here,” Mark Williams, a resident of Julian, said.

Steve Woodringe, the owner of Steve’s Automotive, was hit particularly hard — his store was flooded with mud and he now has to close his store for a day.

“It’s just more of a big mess than anything, hopefully nothing’s destroyed,” Woodringe said.

Woodringe and his staff, friends and family have been tending to cleaning all day.

While cleaning was not his ideal way to spend the Fourth of July, Woodringe says he is grateful he spent the day in a neighborly way.

“We’ll get through it,” Woodringe said. “I got a lot of great friends taking time out of their schedule to help me out and I’m grateful for every one of them.”

Steve’s Automotive will be closed tomorrow and will hopefully re-open Friday.
