The Johnstown Police Department received new equipment to keep officers more accountable and citizens safer.
Johnstown police received 31 tasers in October, enough for each officer.
AmeriServ Bank and the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies started the Johnstown Police Support Fund in September. They received enough private donations to raise $40,000 to buy the tasers.
“The chances for officer to be injured and the person being arrested getting injured, goes away greatly. Not entirely, but greatly,” said Johnstown Police Chief Robert Johnson.
Chief Johnson hopes to register all the officers for a taser re-training course sometime in the next several months.
