Johnstown has an interim city manager, who’s familiar with the job.
At Tuesday night’s Johnstown City Council reorganization meeting, former city manager Curt Davis was appointed to serve as interim city manager until June 30, 2018.
“There are initiatives and projects in the city, that if somebody didn’t step in, it would be put aside and may fall a year or so behind. I didn’t want that to happen,” said Davis. “Vision 2025, the sewer project, we currently have some blight issues that are being addressed.”
Davis resigned as city manager in 2009 after serving three years, citing clashes with other council members, including Jack Williams.
“We’ve had our issues in the past, but I’ll work with him,” said Councilman Jack Williams.
Williams and Councilwoman Charlene Stanton argued with other council members over the search for a permanent city manager.
“Several are well-qualified, well-educated, meet all the requirements. There have been no interviews scheduled,” Stanton said.
“If I can say Mrs. Stanton, we had a meeting and you and Mr. Williams didn’t participate,” said Councilwoman Marie Mock.
Davis said Johnstown can’t function without a manager, so he’ll take the lead, for now.
“We need to make a concerted effort to find a good, younger candidate to come in and transition into the position and help move the city forward,” said Davis.
