Johnstown City Hall gets prescription drug drop box

A new prescription drug collection unit was installed to help fight drug abuse in Johnstown.

The Johnstown Police Department received the drug drop box through a grant with CVS Pharmacy and The Partnership at Drugfree.org. The two organizations created the community donation program to help local police departments safely dispose of unwanted medications and controlled substances in their communities.

You can drop off household or over the counter prescriptions, as well as pet medications, with no questions asked.

If not disposed of properly, unused medications pose a risk for accidental poisoning, theft and drug abuse. Medication that is put into the trash or flushed can pollute water and harm fish and wildlife.

Needles, syringes, Epipens, lancets, thermometers and liquid chemotherapy bags are not accepted.

The drop box is located on the first floor inside Johnstown City Hall, 401 Main Street.
