An inmate at a state prison in Somerset County is suing the state’s Department of Corrections.
That prisoner, Jamal Washington, filed the lawsuit over the prison’s recent ban on work boots.
The DOC banned the sale of those boots after another inmate was charged with murder for beating a corrections officer to death.
In the paperwork, Washington said he needs the boots to stay warm during the winter. He asked the court to prevent the prison from confiscating all the inmates’ work boots or provide footwear that’s warm, waterproof and has proper arch support.
