An inmate’s death at SCI Benner Township has been ruled as a homicide.
23-year-old Derric Harsh was found unresponsive in his cell just before midnight on Wednesday. An autopsy was completed, and the cause of death was ruled as strangulation.
Harsh was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center and was pronounced dead just before 1 a.m. Thursday.
He was serving an 8-16 year sentence for rape in Lancaster County and had been in SCI Benner since February 2.
PSP Rockview is also investigating the death.
