Current Johnstown Mayor Frank Janakovic won the primary with about 59% of the votes.

His opponents were current City Councilman Jack Williams and John DeBartola, the president of the Keystone Alliance/Gaylife Newspaper.

Janakovic said the city has made a lot of progress in the past few years, but there’s still work to do so they don’t lose momentum.

Some of the biggest issues facing Johnstown include violence, economic development and blight.

Mayor Janakovic said that moving forward, he wants to continue to encourage city and community leaders to work together to improve Johnstown.

“It’s got to be a collective effort. It can’t be any singular person or thing that’s going to make this city better. It’s got to be all of our citizens working together with government with the neighborhoods with businesses to move Johnstown forward,” said Johnstown Mayor Frank Janakovic.

In the past, the Johnstown City Council has struggled to work together at times. Mayor Janakovic said he’s ready to work with the next council members to move the city forward.
