The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) just released the crash report for a plane crash that killed two people last week.
According to their report, ice and weather played a factor in the crash. The single engine plane crashed in Woodbury Township, Blair County between 8:43 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. killing Stephen Grady and James Durkin.
The NTSB writes the pilot asked to divert to The John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport at 8:28 a.m. because he was experiencing ice accumulation on the plane, but was turned back to Altoona-Blair County Airport due to cloud coverage in the area.
Traffic control lost contact with the plane a 8:43 a.m.
During the investigation, it was discovered the parachute system was not activated before the crash.
