Residents of one local community have a lot to be proud of this week. Friday was the third day of this year’s Huntingdon County Pride Telethon, at the Smithfield Fire Hall. The event offers three days of live auctions, followed by a talent day featuring  local businesses and individuals.

Over the 40-plus years it’s been in existence, the four day telethon has raised more than $3 million with all of that money going to help residents. Proceeds fund programs like therapeutic horseback riding,  medical equipment loans, early intervention services, speech and occupational therapy, and senior care.

“There’s lots of people, if it wasn’t for some of these services we provide and get funded through the telethon, we wouldn’t be able to provide them, and some people would have to go to nursing homes sooner or maybe some people that are recovering from surgery would have to stay in the hospital longer,” says Pride Executive Director Adam Pfingstel.

It’s shown locally on cable in Huntingdon County and you can also watch and bid online. For more information and to see a list of the items up for auction, go to www.huntingdonpride.org.
