Bob Szoszorek couldn’t be happier to be doing something he never thought he’d do again.
“Oh I love it, I love it,” he says. “I never would be able to walk out here. I would be on ground more than I would be on my feet,” he laughs.
Szoszorek was hit with a Chinese claymore mine while serving in Vietnam.
“I got hit in the right leg, lost the use of my right leg, and lost part of my skull,” explains the veteran.
But thanks to an Action Trackchair, he’s hunting alongside fellow veteran Doug Reighard.
“It just brings a little joy back to their life in a spot that the felt would be gone forever,” said veteran Mike Steele.
Steele and his organization ‘Wings for our Heroes’ organized the free upland bird hunting trip.
“It’s our turn to finally give back to the guys who didn’t come back as good as I did and this is our chance to offer something up to them,” says Steele.
“We really believe very strongly this helps them recover from their injuries, bringing these guys together on trips,” says Dr. George Bayer, who came along for the trip.
The organization is inviting all service members injured in the line of duty to join them.
“I think this is good therapy,” says Szoszorek.
Szoszorek enjoys it so much, he’s already planning to come back soon.
‘Wings for our Heroes’ were able to get the action track chairs thanks to donations.
Steele hopes to plan many more hunting trips for injured service members in the future.
