Bedford County officials have identified the human remains that were found on October 20, 2018.

The remains have been identified as 47-year-old Robert E. Cochran from Canajoharie, New York. Officials said he was walking from there. They also said that he had left a note at home, saying he needed to get away.

An hour and a half after the news conference on November 1, officials got an anonymous call from an EMS personnel that said they remembered transporting someone that matched the description to UPMC Bedford on September 24, 2013. The patient was tired, dehydrated, and suffering from leg pain. He was treated and then released.

Officials said they contacted Cochran’s family and was able to test the DNA and found a positive match.

The remains are being released to his family.
